Tax credits and statutory maternity pay

Basically I'm after some advice.
I'm going to use approximate figures here.

I was under the impression that when you are on maternity leave and on SMP they disregard the first £100 of your income. Is this right?

My income was 7000 last year but was on maternity leave for 34 weeks so should my income on the statement be 3400 less? So should it show £3600 on the letter? I'm confused

Yep that's right.

I thought so
I've phoned them 3 times about this and they still put my income as 7000.
They say I've been overpaid because of this.
Back on the phone I go Hmm

You are right. I had this situation - basically my salary was checked with my employer, who gave the figure befire the £100 per week had been deducted. I had to appeal the decision in writing and it was eventually sorted out but it took a good few months. Please document all calls you make and letters you send. Good luck.
