And how do we do it and how much does it cost?

We are just embarking on a mortgage too so best get everything in order at once.

We need to get wills in order too, but we did get life insurance for me (even tho i stay at home, so if smthing happened to me my dh could afford childcare) and for dh as well - obviously to cover his income for a few years if something happened to him - shop around for LI because it varies between companies:

moneysupermarket.com

is good for checking out different options.

quootie how much does your bupa cost for ds?

I was thinking of getting it, my ds who's 2.5 will need his tonsils out soon but the nhs are going to fight it...

we saw an independent financial advisor

who sorted

mortgage

life & critical illness cover

for no fee...he got paid by whomever we took the cover out with and the mortgage....he gave us lots of different ones to choose from, based on our needs.

they will often visit you at home, of an evening which is great if you have kids!!

Costs me, DS & DP £84pm (fullpackage minus 1st consultation fee and psychiatric care (that costs 120pm)), but mine is higher because Im on medication for depression, so, I think DS will be about £20/30.

For life insurances etc. I highly recomend Norwich Union.

We went with L&C for a mortgage (they are recommended by www.moneysavingexpert.com aka Martin Lewis who is one of the leading money advisors -often on TV) their web www.lcplc.co.uk/

They search the whole of the market for mortgages and prioritise what is the best product for you ie do you want a fixed rate so you know where you stand for the next X years and wouldn't be bothered if the rates fell slightly etc etc and they are fab.

They also sourced my critical illness cover as I am SAHM and my DH works, we have accidental death policy (£8pm) redundancy cover, salary protection, buildings and contents etc. Have private health care through DHs work.

Think L&C can look at all of it for you. Was all done over the phone at convenient times for me (had toddler running round) forms to sign were posted etc was all very simple!

Wills -can pick up something from your bank which will give you an idea of what questions they want answers for, really makes you think about who you would leave everything to, also have a best friend who in case of your death can remove items you may not wish your parents to find!!! {grin}
