Tax return - how long before I can expect to hear anything?

A couple of months ago I completed my tax return (first time I've ever needed to do one) and posted it off. I haven't heard anything at all since then, not even a standard acknowledgement.

Is this normal?

How long is it likely to be before they get in touch?

I do one every year on line and normally hear back with payment in a month this year sent paper one in during June and was told this week, the calculation would be done before end of January but not necessarily the payment!!

We complete our the week after the end of the financial year (ie: April) and usually get the assessment back before the end of the month. Guess they might be a bit busier at this time of year, but might be worth ringing them to check they have it?

Do they owe you tax? We filled ours in and received a cheque within a week.

Never do mine on paper, always online, but it takes a while to hear back. I wouldn't worry.

i've had my bill already. Sent it in late August I think. Can't do it online as it's only a short version thankfully.

DelGirl · 06/10/2006 10:28

Thanks everyone. Funnily enough, I've received a letter from HMRC in the post this morning with my tax calculation. And I've overpaid tax so they owe me £51
