Conveyancing Direct Internet solicitors based in Glasgow - any stories either goog or bad?

We are moving to Alloa in December from England. We need a Scottish and an English solicitor due to the different legal systems. We were given a card for Conveyancing Direct, Clydeway Skypark, Glasgow and rang them up . They seemed ok but when I mentioned them to the estate agent in Scotland she urged me to get a "proper" solicitor especially as I was from England. She was really firm about it.
What does anyone think? Any dirt or praise for that particular firm or internet firms in general?

I work for a firm of solicitors & I know they have occasional problems with Conveyancing companies sometime a Solicitor. Is there anyone that can recomend a solicitor to you?
We used a firm based in Glasgow when we sold our property I can give you their details if you like?

Try a message on the Channel 4 Homes forum asking for someone in the area, we're in Glasgow but moving to North Lanarkshire & using a solicitor there so they'd be a bit far for you. I can give you details if you like as we've used them to buy & sell 3 times but you'd maybe be better with someone closer to the place you're moving.

You are both really kind. DH has come home with a recommendation from a work mate based in Cumbernauld so we`ll ditch the internet lot and play safe. Thanks all.

Figleaf that's where we moving to, who is it he's recommended because my friend used to work for a couple of the firms there & knows their reps pretty well, if it's of any help.
Ours are Barrowmans & we've been fine with them so far.... I'll have jinxed it now won't I

If your DH's recommendation doesn't work out I can recommend a firm I used to work for, they are Barton & Hendry, they have offices in Cumbernauld and Stirling. TBH I would use a proper firm of solicitors too, moving is stressful enough without adding any worries.

You decided on Alloa then? Have you gone for an older property or a new one?

Jbck · 06/10/2006 22:16

I have a feeling the Barton & Hendry office in Noddytown is closed now MrsS I'm sure it's a beauticians or something. Not 100% though so don't quote me they may just have moved premises.

I used a firm in Glasgow to purchase my flat and they were fantastic! Coudlnt have been more helpful and the costs were competitive! Let me know if you would like their contact details.

We are using a firm called Jardine Donaldson, they are in Stirling. Perhaps we can play out Jbck when we are both in Alloa. We went for a brand new house Mrs Spoons. It saved the bidding thing. We`re buying from a little developer/builder called Allan Water. They have built 9 houses on a much larger development called Alloa park. The two systems for buying/selling houses are so different in England and Scotland it really is hard to believe considering we are neighbours etc.

fig we're not moving to Alloa, moving to Cumbernauld but I did pass through alloa on sunday on my way to the retail outlet village at Tillicoutry. Looked nice & villagey which I would rather but various needs must for us so New Town characterless, souless overpriced place for us it is!
