working tax credits and child care

Hi there!

I am getting very fed up with the above topic! I work 16 hours a week and claim working tax credits and tax credits. My son is funded for 15 hours term time only in nursery so I put in a claim to cover my childcare bill this summer. However tax credits have taken my claim and reduced it by £100 this month and next month by another £100 leaving my totally out of pocket! It increases back to normal in October but this is still 2 months away! But they are giving my £16pw to help the child care bill. I'm totally baffled by the calculations as I didn't think putting in a short term childcare claim affected the original claim. As also I now having my housing benefit claim reviewed and council tax bill reviewed meaning I owe more money on my council tax but housing benefit have increased my claim but in two months I'll owe them money again when they change my claim back again!! Can anybody out there advise me on what to do?! Or has anyone had a similar problem?! I'm a single mum and this sort of reduction totally affects our lives! Its such a worry !

I've no idea why your tax credits have gone down but I thought you were meant to average the childcare costs over the year?

Because it's only short term though I'm not sure how it works. I'm now trying to talk to someone because I don't understand it
