Dont know if anyone has ever done anything like this but I live in a fairly quiet residential road that is straight and behind a main road. It is used as a through road by idiots who will drive extremely fast up the road. They only do it so they dont have to sit at the traffic lights on the main road. Anyways how do I go about getting the council to consider speed bumps if I can get neighbours etc to agree[most of them are elderly or have young ish children like us]

speed bumps are more dangerous IMO

people slow up to each one then speed up then brake

they don't save lives as drivers are too busy concentrating on bumps

think about it carefully

try your local coucillor and also if you have a community speed group seak to them. althernatively video what going on and give it to the police/ cover an old hairdyer in black cloth get a flurescant jacket and stand on the road. we have the same prob through our village. finally we have campigned enough to become a community speed concern area which mean the mobile speed camera wil visit the village. hth

you could ask them to lower the speed limit, what is it now 30? we are plagued by speed bumps here they are awful, one borough up the road has just got rid of them all. they aren't great for ambulances etc

local councillor or parish council if you have one.

Speed bumps have killed the speed in our road, It is now a 10mph which is alot safer.
Our road is also used as a cut through.
Good luck, it took a while for the speed bumps to happen in our road. It was authorised as there was a lot of people who had been knocked down including my bro.
Good luck.

The other thing about speed bumps is that they are annoying if one is right outside your house because all you can hear are cars slowing down and then accelerating. We've got a guy that lives nearby with a subaru - damn annoying especially at 2 in the morning!!! How about a speed camera sign?

Nemo1977 · 10/09/2006 20:22

I think the speed limit is 20 but there is no signs etc. It is basically a back street/road that only has residential houses on. It is not overly wide and has cars parked on both sides.

What is alternative to speed bumps if they wouldnt help?

i've driven around roads where the neighbours have put up their own signs to slow down.
