Tax Credits- Has anyone had success from the Adjudicators Office?

Not sure if anyone will/can reply

We're fighting an overpayment situation and have exhausted the dispute/appeals process with HMRC. MP has been involved but was pretty useless so the Adjudicator's Office seems our next step before the parliamentary ombudsman.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice Thanks

I did got over payment written of,6000 but talking about 10 years ago. my argument was I gave you relevant paperwork, I didn't demand money you told me entitled to it, so your mistake.

they are a lot tougher because so many over payments got dismissed.

but it does say on paper work over payment have to be paid back even though calculations are hard to understand.

not much help

We found an accountant who specialised in dealing with tax credit issues. He gave us his opinion informally on whether we would win and then an estimate of how much it would cost before he took the case. It ended up being about £500 but saved us nearly £13k so well worth it!

We didn't live locally to him but he was happy to deal with it by email. It really helped reduce our stress levels too because we knew that we didn't have to deal with tax credits people any more (some of them were incredibly rude and didn't know their own rules).

I'd be happy to give you his details if you pm me.

Thanks for the replies, and thanks for the offer mrsm but I'm forking out elsewhere at the moment and simply haven't got any funds.

I'm fine doing all the letter writing etc myself and it's heartening to hear a couple of positive outcomes!

It's been going on for over 2 years already but I'm like a dog with a bone when I know I'm right Grin
