Does this mean I'll lose my no claims bonus and my payments will go up next year?

Driving home along the motorway today and a stone flew up and hit the windscreen of my car Dh and I got such a fright but we were all ok apart from the fact that we now have a perfect circular crack on the windscreen. The crack is inside the glass if you know what I mean, the glass is smooth on the outside.

My insurance certificate says that I have to pay ?75 excess, all I do is take the car to autoglass and they'll fix it and I pay the excess.

But does this mean that I'll have no no claims bonus next year? And will my payments go up?

I only got the car 3 months ago, first car so I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

also is it still safe to drive the car with this crack in the windscreen? It's not in front of the steering wheel it's sort of in the middle but more towards the passenger side.

Any advice welcomed

That should say £75 not sure why there is a question mark there

it wont be a "claim". DONT drive with a crack in windscreen, they arent safe... I think they help side impacts aswell. I paid £75 excess with Tesco and I asked if it was a claim... it isnt.

I'm fairly certain that windscreens do not affect your no claims bonus.

I agree - it is usually not safe to drive with a cracked windscreen, particularly not at speed.

As a previous insurance claims person.... it will not affect your no claims bonus, and your payments will not go up.

Windscreen claims are excess only.

Hope that helps x

ncd will not be affected and premium will not go up because of it. Same as others don't drive with a cracked w/s - telephone autoglass and they will come out and fix it.

I had a chipped windscreen at christmas. It was fixed with some sort of glue that put the strength back in (chip was small) and I didn't even have to pay the excess!

Same thing happened to us. We fixed the crack w/a little thingy from Halford's, but DH doesn't think it will pass MOT next year.

Ours is also £75 excess thru Tesco.

It happens, unfortunately.

expat, mine has been through an MOT since being fixed.

Really? It's a circular crack. We didn't even see the pebble, just heard it. It was on the motorway, so it hit at speed.
