STUDENT DAUGHTER AND COUNCIL TAX

Hi everyone, I have posted this on education too but am desperate for any info. My daughter is at Uni and has an exemption certificate for Council Tax until 2007. However, she has rented a flat for the summer and has now been told that she has to pay Council Tax there. The fact that her circumstances have not changed (apart from her address) would say to me that the exemption ceretificate still stands. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah she'll just need to get a new exemption certificate for that address.

her certificate should be for her not the address she resides at until they have majorly changed the system in the past 3 years, she just needs to submit the certificate again.

However if she is sharing with non-students then they will have to pay council tax and i think if 2 or more people are eligiable then they pay the full amount. however if she is sharing with one other who pays then they get a small reduction 20% i think
