dp ordered a laptop from them on tuesday and they called on wed/thurs repeatedly to say that they couldn't access his account on that particular card ,even though he had checked with the bank and they said there was no problems ,so they ask him tonight to reorder on his other card ,which he did.
And now the bastards have charged him for 2 laptops and he doesn't have that much in his account so will now get charged/fined by Barclays
Any advice on how to proceed from here?

Have you any record of their calls? Did they email at all?

As he checked with the bank before the 2nd order they know there was a problem, they should be able to waive charges, shouldn't they?

sh1t. Sorry. Talk to the bank and talk to Dell - if customer services doesn't sort it out, write to the chief exec and copy it to Watchdog.

phone Barclays - they will sort it out. He won't get fined.

If Barclays don't refund the charges then ask them for a letter stating the charges are because of that payment.

Send it to Dell and demand they pay.

A few people I know have said Dell are crap customer service/delivery wise. Thiink you will need to keep on their case.

cancel the order! it will be the best thing you do, dh spent a year constantly on the phone to customer services (not cheap) trying to explain to call centre agents in india about reoccuring blue screening of our laptop, their customer service is useless even their own engineer said so. and we had next day on site business repairs policy (which was very expensive) still hasd to send laptop away for repairs and then courier temporarily lost it!
