it would be cheaper for us if i were the main driver and my partner named on my policy, but he owns the car. a girl at norwich union said we could only do this if we were married otherwise i need to register the car as mine with dvla. but she sounded quite uncertain and it wouldnt be the first time norwich union have messed us about.

depends on the company, we foudn one that would allow me to be the main driver. Can't think who it is now, will ask dp later.

I am on the "deeds" for our car without DP but he is the only one insured as i can't drive.

We are with direct line

thanks kelly1978. yes fiofio, he doesnt have any no claims whereas i do. if i am main driver, we save £45 a month.

Hi Ali

I work for an insurance company and most of them do require that the Policy holder is the registered keeper of the vehicle, however there are some insurers that will allow you to be the policy holder even if you are not the registered keeper, but you mainly have to be married.

Thanks darciesmum. looks like i must organise quickie wedding then.

He could own the car but have you as the registered keeper. I don't remember how you do that, though.

dp said that our quote for me as main driver was with bradford and bingley. WE aren't amrried neither. HTH

SenoraPostrophe · 17/07/2006 10:10

you don't have to be owner or keeper with some companies. I've been the main driver on dh's car for years (inc when he was dp). since I really am the main driver it would be dishonest not to do that imo. ins co currently is direct line, think before it was eagle star.

thanks. i will check these companies out.
