Paying debt collection company by direct transfer without fees

What, if anything, can a debt collection company do, if I make a direct bank transfer (for the debt )to their account ?

Basically they're chasing some council tax.

Apart from cash, all their payment methods have fees.
There is no official option to do direct transfer.

Why can't I just do a direct transfer without fees ?

I am probably being paranoid and also have no experience of this, so please don't take it as gospel, but I would worry that doing a direct transfer would show them your account details and leave them able to access money from it in the future. Dave Ramsey always says don't do it as it gives them access but he's talking about American accounts and I don't know whether they work in the same way...
