Not in a contract as out of it.

just phone them - as long as it's in yout name and the 12months are up you can cancel

JanH · 17/06/2006 22:59

Just ring them up and tell them you want out. Apparently if you ring 0800 587 5707 and don't press anything, just hang on, you will get a human.

They will offer you deals but if you don't want them just keep saying No!

nikkie · 17/06/2006 23:01

08702404040 I think .
When I did it they offered me loads of deals but if you really want to cancel it you can use your box as a digibox and get freesat(but it doesn't have e4 if you want that)

I canceled mine last year and they have been phoning with more and more offers the latest being 62p a month for 2 months (cancel after the 1st one to avoid paying extra) and it includes the sport

How is it paid? From a DD from an account in your name? Cancel the DD. Phone sky, talk to a person and burst into tears telling them everything.

jambuttie · 18/06/2006 09:21

That won't work, it has to be the account holder that cancels the account. This is also for data protection reasons.

regardless if you stop the direct debit at the bank it doesnt cancel the sky account

maisiemoosmum · 18/06/2006 10:12

when my ex did a runner, he took the telly and sky box while i was at work. i called sky, they cancelled his name off my address and let me set up my own new account & sent out new equipment etc. he still had to pay for the contract til it ran out regardless. if you explain everything they are generally quite understanding about it. they dealt with me though and it was in his name. i just told the truth that he'd gone and nicked the equipment.

SoupDragon · 18/06/2006 11:53

Ah, but jambuttie, if the Sky contract is in his name it matters not a jot to Jellyjelly if the contract is cancelled or not provided she's not paying for it.

SoupDragon · 18/06/2006 11:54

Alternatively, simply get a male friend to phone and cancel. I doubt they have voice recognition. All you'll need is a list with stuff like DOB, mothers maiden name and other potential security information.

Ledodgyherring · 18/06/2006 11:56

No, she will need to make sure either he cancels it or pays it or tells them he's not at her adress any more otherwise it could result in the address being blacklisted and could cause problems getting credit etc in the future for jelly jelly.

Ledodgyherring · 18/06/2006 11:56

or male friend, thats a good idea.

LIZS · 18/06/2006 11:58

dh was able to cancel my card (which we'd had registered to another uk address to use abroad ) and set up another in his name, over the phone.

pacinofan · 18/06/2006 14:17

We cancelled sky digital last week. As the account was in dh's name it was only he they would allow to cancel it. I explained he was overseas working, they were quite happy to accept an email to cancel it. Stupid part is, how do they know who wrote the email?!

I can honestly say the only channel I will miss from the 500+ (mostly repetitive, boring stuff filled with adverts) is Nick Junior. Waste of money imo.

heavenis · 21/06/2006 12:57

We canceled in feb and couldn't get through on the phone so we e-mailed them. Worth a try.
