OK so having spent all week on here whinging about not having a mortgage or pension, it occurred to me that we should actually get life insurance.

I've done a search on moneysupermarket.com and premiums are cheaper than I thought, but I can only find the option to have life or life with critical illness. since dh and I run a company together it is imperative that we are covered for some payout (though not nec the whole amount) if either of us are temporarily incapacitated - say, any hospital stay of more than 3 weeks. critical illness seems to be defined only as a life changing, permanent illness. does anyone know of such a policy?

YOu want an Income protection policy. I'm afraid I don't know where to get one (We are covered by dh's employer) but you should be able to search for it. It basically provides the equialent of sick pay for those that are self employed or don't get it from an employer

thanks pru - the name of the thing is a good place to start!

I was kind of thinking of something that would pay out a lump sum (that we'd use to pay a temp rather than to pay our rent) but of course we do need the two things. i hate this kind of thing.
