Have you successfully sold a car on ebay?

We're changing dh's car, and thinking of selling his old one privately.

We have never used ebay, I just wondered whether it's worth trying.
The car is a 9 y.o. volvo V40, worth somewhere in the £1000- 1200 price range.

Not personally, but I do know of someone who bought one (but it was some expensive collectors type car, not a run of the mill make iyswim).

yes i have, but the first time the auction closed on a troll, didn't bother to relist (got fees refunded though).

The second car the same thing happened but htis time he pushed the other bidders up so I was able to do a second chance offer and get more than the guy would have paid without the troll IYSWIM. Was still less than I wanted though.

Be prepared to ge ta fairly low price - not always true but most people doing cars on Ebay seem to want soemthing between the dealer price and the resale price.

Do some ho,mework and watch other similar cars for a while first to see how they go.

Yes. Had been trying for six months and couldn't sell it, even to dealers, because it was high mileage, though a good car. Sold within 24 hours on e-bay for the 'buy it now' price. I provided good photos, service history etc and described every scratch and dent with measurements. Good luck

Yes, have just sold one this week actually. Had tried Autotrader magazine and website before that but with no luck. Like eemie, we took lots of good photos, had service history and gave detailed description of scratches and dents with phots. Got a reasonable price for it. Look at other ads to get an idea, we asked for a deposit to secure the deal for e.g.

We might give it try then, esp as it's only £6 to list it.
