income support and college

Hi im on income support but was thinking of going back to college to retrain and hopefully get a job at the end of it. Does anyone know if ill loose my income support?

It's hard to say without knowing more about your circumstances; but you might even be able to get help paying your course fees.

I would ask at the DWP.

Probably better to ask for advice at the college you're considering attending; DWP are notorious for giving out inaccurate information on entitlements especially for the complex situation of students and benefits. There will probably be a student advice service which can give you an individual assessment.

I continued to get Income Support when I was at college, but the system has changed recently so not sure if you would. Depends on the course you do as well, whether it's full time and if you get any funding for it from Student Finance. If it's higher education (same as degree level) and you're eligible for a student loan, you'd usually lose income support as the loan is enough to cover your expenses.
