Any pension credits for unmarried partner?

Hi, we have recently moved to the uk and i am lost in the pension scheme! I am working ft but my partner gave up his job when we moved to the uk so that he would be able to look after our children. Are their any pension credits that he could build up over the period that he is looking after the kids although we are not married??

I think if he is the one claiming child benefit, then he would gain pension credits for the years looking after the kids up to the youngest reaching age of 12.
