If you are now paying you should be OK. Get up to date with your payments asap and you'll be fine.
If you are now paying they won't bother to prosecute due to the expense.
Just make sure you keep up to date from now on.

cananyonehelp · 25/04/2006 21:51

Yes, as long as you keep up to date from now on you'll be OK.

jamsam · 25/04/2006 22:04

where i used to live they would put on a huge billboard in town the postcodes of anyone caught and prosecuted for not having a licesnse, that was my neighbour, 3 times!!!

curlysmum · 25/04/2006 22:25

sorry I had something similar a few years ago , fella was really nice explained just had a baby had forgot to renew and he said ok filled out the forms and then got a summons to court after about 4 weeks. I rang them up and asked why he had lead me to believe it was ok but it did'nt stop them going to court...

Janh · 25/04/2006 22:29

DD1's student house had no licence until the Dementors came round - she played the innocent and signed up for a DD and they got away with it.

Don't know if it's up to the individual Dementor or is a departmental decision. Fingers crossed for you, cah.

cananyonehelp · 26/04/2006 09:40

Sorry to be the grim reaper, but we got caught as students and were told it would be ok and then were fined. This was about 10 years ago though, so they might have lightened up a bit.

cananyonehelp · 26/04/2006 09:57

oh dear how much is the fine ? how would you pay if you didnt have that sort of money??

OP posts:
cod · 26/04/2006 09:59

cod · 26/04/2006 10:00

the fine will be based on your means so fill in the form carefully when it comes

they will blooody prosecute badhair

cananyonehelp · 26/04/2006 10:02

so they will see we havnt got alot of spare money would they let us pay weekly or something??

OP posts:
cod · 26/04/2006 10:03

yes but youd have to go to court to arrange that
when you get the summons fill it in and go to court
ring th court office if unsure

cananyonehelp · 26/04/2006 10:14

ok thanks for you help cod and all the others .xx

OP posts:
curlysmum · 26/04/2006 11:26

I had to fill in the forms before it went to court, you did'nt have to appear or anything just give the details of your circumstances and keep fingers crossed for a nice judge. I rang up the following day and he had spared me the fine, just asked to pay £60.00 court fees I think and the cost of the licence. I think they just say that it will be ok on the doorstep as they don't really want to get into a big debate with you. They just do as they please when they go back to the office.

pepperpots · 26/04/2006 11:36

I had someone come round but it was the fault of tv licensing people although my license was valid until decemeber they had failed to take out three months payments from my account (they called mid november). He was a real arse about it and said that they could still take me to court Angry After he left i called them up and paid it all off in one go. Was very Angry at being made to feel threatned in my own home

JanH · 26/04/2006 11:38

I wasn't joking about Dementors - they can be extremely unpleasant. We have friends with no TV and they have had threatening letters and visits for years.

cod · 26/04/2006 11:42
