...just received the lowest payrise I have ever had because instead of being marked at my level of work, I was given an average rise as I was on maternity leave.

Would you say anything?

Yes! Were you on mat. leave for the whole year as that is the period your pay rise should be based on? You should be rewarded for how good your work was during the part of the year you were not on leave.

I was on mat leave for five 1/2 months, and answered questions / looked at spreadsheets while I was on mat leave too
now I feel stupid for doing so

bump (in case any more knowledgeable peeps are on this morning for you Hmmmmmmmmmmmm)

Why did you do stuff whilst on mat leave? Doesn't that trigger the end of mat leave once you do any work?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 19/04/2006 09:56

During your mat leave all your rights continue as if you were still working, e.g. you accrue holiday, time that counts towards a pension etc. I'd have thought this would mean same payrise too. I got the same annual payrise when on maternity leave (mine isn't performance-related, though, just what the union negotiates.)

georginarf · 19/04/2006 09:59

Usually you can't be treated differently just because you're on maternity leave - they can't use that as the actual reason for not giving you the full raise you are entitled to.

They may be able to do this, but I would definitely look into this further. It may be different if it's performance related, but if there is work from you to be marked on, can't see how....there are ways that companies get around things but do check.

DelGirl · 19/04/2006 10:26

I've just had a payrise and it was the 'average'. I'm ok with that as i've heard they've been trying to downrate most people as there's not much money in the pot, which stinks really but if there's no money, there's no money. I view it that not all companies give regular payrises these days.

DelGirl · 19/04/2006 10:27

should add that I was on ml for a year that's why they couldn't rate me so had to give me the average.
