Telling TC about new baby

When you go from a Single claim to a joint claim your money stops and you start a whole new claim . Does this apply when you tell them about a new baby ? I really rely on that money I can't afford for my payments to stop .

It shouldn't as the entitlement would only go up. Completely different to going from single to joint.

No and when I told them over the phone about new DS (4 years ago), that was all I had to do.

They didnt even ask for his birth certificate.

no it will just go up. i had to call and tell them i'd started work the other week and they just changed the details over the phone and sent me out a rest of the year statement thing and i was getting the higher amount within a couple of weeks.

it's a change of circumstances so straightforward.
