I am so annoyed with Barclays bank!

I have a mobile phone with O2 which I have had since October. I took out mobile phone insurance.

I went to Barclays in December, did a load of stuff on my account, cancelled an old standing order, set up a bank account for my daughter, paid off a loan etc. While there, the personal banker I was with suggested that as I was paying £9.00 for my additions fee (Barclays) and £7.00 for my phone insurance, if I joined the newer additions fee then it would cover my mobile phone as well.

Fair enough, says I.

Job done, says the bloke at the bank.

Stupid me loses my phone on Saturday. Cancelled with O2, called Barclays to sort out the insurance to be told... they never actioned the new additions and therefore I have no mobile phone insurance!!

Called today as was told on Saturday for the complains department, they said it could take up to five days to sort out!

Agree I've had all kinds of problems with Barclays. One particular istance I was on the phone with a member of their staff trying to sort out a problem with my card when he suddenly say "ops!". I ask what ops means to be informed that he has pressed the wrong button and cancelled my card by accident. This, apparently is a non reversible action and I then had to wait for a new card to be issued. Dh was out the country at the time, I couldn't get to a bank for 2 days and had £15 in cash to feed the family etc

To be honest I've found the abbey just as bad. I really have no faith in these banks at all.

I have been with Barclays for nearly six years now and I have found them okay (apart from this mess). I'm hoping (no chance in hell) that they'll just be lenient and pay for the phone.

HSBC were the worst bank I was with. I had £599.99 in my account one day, and about £100 due to clear. There were two cheques due to come out (post dated but they cashed them anyway) for £300 each. They bounced both cheques, charged me £60 for the privilage. I explained about how I had enough money in the account, there was £100 clearing in the next day, plus why bounce both cheques. Their answer was that they didn't know which one needed to be paid (both same amount, to the same person!).
We marched to town (me and mum, I was only 17 and paying my sisters rent as she didn't have a chq book) and complained. No joy. Turned on waterworks, full refund of charges, no record on account and they even did a chaps payment to the landlord with no charges!!

I agree Barclays are getting really bad. Never had any probs til about a year ago. They messed me around with the silly Openplan overflow things, leaving me VERY o/d when I put deposit on my house, and they had the audacity to charge me for it. Its also a joint account, and if i phone up they won't speak to dp unless he phones up seperately. They started sending us seperate letters when we moved, mine to new house, his to old house. So we've been considering moving, but don't know where to because i think they're all as bad as each other.

dh is having probs with barclas at the mo.he opened new account with them and tehy said they would transfer all direct debits from his old account.it was supposed to be hassle free.then a couple of months later,he starts getting letters from the people he had direct debits set up with, saying they hadnt been paid.his credit card co was v miffed and threatened to take action.he rang barclays up,they sent him a letter asking for proof of all his direct debits from his old bank.they paid him teh money he had had as charges, then they said tehy would transfer the dd's.then he got a letter off natwest (his old bank) saying that his account with them (which he thought was closed as barclays said they do it automatically)was overdrawn as they had had to charge for all the direct debits they had had to return!(his wages were going in to barclays and so there was no money in antwest!)barclays have said they will 'look into it' but we havent heard anything yet.bloody useless!!

Barclays are shit. Expensive, completely Ethically/morally lacking, shoddy service. I'm both a credit card and a debit account customer (must be some sort of masochist).

I'm changing both to a more ethical/low rate account as soon as I'm in a position to (as a SAHM with an overdraft and no personal income atm, I have a slim to none chance of being accepted, harrumph).

NomDePlume · 03/04/2006 18:30

I've been with them for 10 years, even had a mortgage off them. Useless gits.

Elf1981 · 06/04/2006 17:30

My Goodness, they have sent a letter saying it wont be sorted out until 3rd May. So til then I am supposed to be phoneless.

Hm.

Spoken to them, they said if they do honour the insurance, they'll send me a chq / money in bank. So I'm off to buy a new phone. Then if they say at 3rd May no refund, I'm going to stick it up their arses!! Do some serious letter complaining me thinks, not that it will do any good but it will make me feel better!
