The Bank is insane

I made some payment with internet banking this evening, I made a small mistake - the system wouldn't let me alter it.

I was scheduling the payment for Monday

But apparently after 6.30 on a Friday it is monday as far as the bank is concerned.

If I had scheduiled them to pay on Monday, last night the money would not have gone til Monday

This is officially insane

I don't think the money will go anywhere over the weekend, did you want the money in oyur account over the weekend or to leave before??

Bedshaped · 31/03/2006 22:46

After a certain time on friday, sometimes 3-3.30, sometimes 4.30-5.00pm, they deem that one "working day" is over, and the next starts.. .even though the next working day is 48hrs away. Welcome to the wonderful world of banking.

Katymac · 31/03/2006 22:47

I wanted it to leave on Monday

It's gone now

I rang and they confirmed it has already gone into the other account (as it's the same branch)

But I wanted to make a payment to go out on Monday (3rd)- but apparently you can only do that on Monday (27th), Tues, Wed, Thurs - if you do it on Fri, Sat or sun it will go out immediately

WTF??

Let me guess do you bank with Loyds?

Katymac · 31/03/2006 22:49

No Natwest

It hasn't technically left your account yet and is still subject to reversal. It is showing as having moved as it is now on what is called 'morning entries' - the items that are programmed to be processed at start of banking the next working day, ie Monday.

Katymac · 31/03/2006 22:53

No I rang and they can't reverse it as it is the same bank (NW to NW) and it has gone - which pisses me off because I wanted it to go on Monday

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 31/03/2006 22:55

Strange - I bank with and worked for NW.

I would have reversed it, though technically it wouldn't make any difference if you still intend it to go out on Monday.

Katymac · 31/03/2006 22:56

But if it had gone on Monday....I could have changed it today

OP posts:
JanH · 31/03/2006 22:57

I bet it has firmly left the account it was in, and is now in limbo, so they don't have to pay any interest anywhere, and it won't actually be credited to the other account until Monday.

Bastards.

Bedshaped · 31/03/2006 22:58

They can reverse it, although, it is now monday, as far as the bank working days are concerned...

SaintGeorge · 31/03/2006 22:59

Why do you need to cancel it? Is the amount wrong or something?

Surprised it isn't showing in pending items though since the clock hasn't ticked over to the required banking day yet. Off to investigate if NW have changed something on the website since I last did a payment.

Katymac · 31/03/2006 22:59

JanH - I think you are right Angry

SG - I just spent 20 mins explaining to the chap that it was wrong

He didn't beleive me

It was about £25 too much - but I can't speak to her til Mon....and she might spend it

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 31/03/2006 23:05

Ring again first thing on Monday morning - 9.00 start of offical business - and request that the payment be cancelled. Speak to someone in your actual branch if possible.

SaintGeorge · 31/03/2006 23:06

It won't be available in her account until Monday at the earliest so she can't spend it over the weekend.

Katymac · 31/03/2006 23:07

That's good news

She'll be at mine from 7am on Monday - so she'll be hard pressed to spend it before thatGrin

They were so frustrating

And they refused to accept that there website was wrong (as it says you can reverse payments)

mieowscintillant · 31/03/2006 23:08

on Monday, phone the bank and said for the payment to be recalled, thats what I do when I can't afford for a payment to be taken..
