I recently received a letter from the solicitor who had been dealing with my late fathers estate. His charges are a lot more than i expected. (approx 1.5k more)
I asked him for a breakdown and he replied with a letter saying how many phone calls and letters (64 - IMO a bit high as it was simple estate)
he did say i could appeal but i would have to stand by the decision of The law society. Is he trying to stitch me up? do i not have to appeal to the practise first?
He has not dealt very well with the probate etc and has sent letters asking for clarification after we have just met etc.

what can i do?
Also how much is typical percentages that solicitors charge from estates?

Thanks in advance

About 4% is quite standard - have known even higher. He probably charges like we do on the amount of time spent.
