PPI - I had it but was it 'mis-sold'?

My car finance company have checked and PPI was added to my loan. Thay asked why I thought it had been mis-sold. All I could say was I didn't know I even had it. This was years ago so how do I know if it was mis-sol or not? I don't think I would have agreed to extra payments, as if I couldn't pay DH would. Also when I did miss 1 payment accidently they charged me loads, so surely my payments weren't protected?

go to Money Saving Expert website - he is great and tells you step by step how to claim.

Don't let them put you off. If you didn't know you had it, then it WAS mis-sold. I believe the definition of mis-sold has recently widened too.

Finance company will try to put you off - write to them, using template on MSE website. Be persistent. You will get paid.

I recommend the PPI Reclaiming Guide from the moneysavingexpert site.

  • Were you told it was compulsory?
  • Didn't realise you had cover?
  • Self-employed unemployed or retired
  • etc.

I think you qualify for 'didn't realise you had cover' and should put in a claim to that effect. IME the companies are so keen to get this mess off their books they are not quibbling much.

Agreeing with cogito - also that it was added without your knowledge

starfishmummy · 12/06/2012 16:23

oops, I mean that a person not knowing it had been added would be a reason; not that mumnosbest had it added without her knowledge
