Estate Agents / solicitors fees

I am selling a house for £130k, and buying one for £230k.

The estate agents are saying I have committed to using Countrywide Solicitors ( i dont remember this ) , who are quoting £1k for selling and £1.8k for purchase

I have no idea whether this is a reasonable deal or not .. Does anyone have any experience of this sort of tie in deal ?

Any advice on next steps ?

Sounds very expensive tbh. Did you get a lower EA commission rate by signing up to their solictor ?

violathing · 24/05/2012 07:50

this is expensive, we got both buying and selling for less than £1000. excl Stamp Duty of course which in your case will be £2300.00 and this is added to their bill
I guess it depends on where you are in the UK, we are in S Yorks which is prob cheaper?

It sounds as though you signed up to use the solicitors recommended by your Estate Agent - there will probably be something in the EA's terms and conditions about this so you should check there as a starting point. You will almost certainly pay more than you need to if you stick with this deal so if you aren't bound into it try shopping around. My mum recently signed up to one of these deals last year and was not at all happy with the service she received.

Viola.. we are in S Yorks too
Have gone back to EA and asked some searching questions.. they cant come up with anything with a signature on it relating to the sols, so we are goin g elsewhere Smile
