PPI question - some assistance required please, from those in the know.

I have read and digested some but not all of the PPI thread as it's v long!

I have sent out the initial letters and have had a couple of replies asking me to fill in what looks like a standard form.

The information I provided in my first letter was taken from fairly limited details in my credit report - I do not have any further information to give them. Unfortunately I am unable to give them account numbers (but name, address etc is still relevant) will this matter?

Also, how about section E? Did you elaborate here with extra detail or why you are now unhappy? Will this info add anything or is this form designed to put me off taking this further?

I'm not completely convinced I was mis sold PPI at the time but are any of us?

My experience from friends sending these off is to provide as much information as you can, answering questions completely but don't feel obliged to elaborate. The default assumptions seems to be that PPI was mostly missold and, from what I've seen, they are not quibbling reasonable claims. My guess is that they have so many thousands of them to process, it would take too long.

I did this, it was worth it. It's not even about us being 'misold' it, more like anyone who sold it to us made us feel we should have it.
The course I took followed Martin's Supermarket advice and all worked a treat. This was in fact even though I had no idea what I borrowed when and that it was all over 6 years ago etc...
I got my credit report for £2 online. I then phoned anyone that looked like loan/HP and once past their security, asked if they could send/tell me of any accounts I had with them. As long as I could provide all other details, they gave me account numbers.
Once I got that info - Northern Rock did it over the phone and were great, HSBC were an absolute pain in the butt and Natwest actually obstructive - we haven't gone through Natwest's yet...
Then, I did the form on Martin's/finance ombuds site...and sent off and waited. One mistake that took me weeks was I filled in one form - HSBC - but put on all 5 references/loans on there, they wrote back and said I had to submit one form per claim.
My form was almost blank. I ticked don't know or can't remember for nearly all of them BUT I did wirte a paragraph about how I was quite young and impressionablae at the time I took outt he loans etc...and I felt 'bullied'...
For some, I couldn't even remember where or if I was working at the time.
Northern Rock were very quick. On a %k loan, I got nearly 1K back, and they only took about 5 weeks. Fab.
HSBC took AGES and also what was odd was becasue it was so long ago, they didn't tell me exactly, or didn't know, the amount I had actually borrowed....BUT, they offered me £1500, and to me really - it was 'free' money, so I accepted....
Go for it. Nothing to lose - honestly at all - except the price of a stamp! Smile

Thank you too Eggs. I will set the evening aside and fill in their wretched forms!

I bloody hate form filling but as you rightly point out, it's free money Grin

And BTW - I got my credit report online but it doesn't give me any account numbers just dated. I guess it's enough...

It seems a pain, but carry on. I did it and got the last 4 digits of ac numbers, but if you didn't have that I reckon you could still hone up the bank company etc...and make an enquiry....see if you still have any paperwork lurking around, too...
