Is it worth applying for housing benefit, and if so in whose name?

I'm a SAHM to a 14 month old DS and I'm 12 weeks pregnant with number 2. DH earns roughly £ 22k plus quarterly bonus of up to £ 3k annually although it's not guaranteed.

Obviously I'm not earning at the moment. I've looked at the entitled to website and it says we might be entitled to some help towards our rent (we rent privately) but we applied before DS was born when DH earned less and we're not entitled, is having a child likely to change that? If so should we apply in DHs name as he's earning the money?

Would just like some opinions before I start filling in the mammoth form!

Apply.
They can only say no.

It doesn't matter whose name you apply because its a joint form, you will both claim it. There is the person who is filling out the form and your partner.

The only time it matters who claims is if one of you is a student or legally not able to claim benefits, ie person from abroad. Your local authority may have a benefits calculator on their website that you could try.

Sparky is right though the worst that can happen is they say no and you won't be any worse off.
