How much do you spend per week on booze?

We're on a strict budget at the moment, but can't resist buying a couple of bottles of cheap (£4.50, but nice! Grin) wine a week. So that's £9 a week! Seems like quite a lot compared to my food budget (£80ish for a family of five, including most toiletries and household stuff).

When we were better off, we could easily spend £20-£25 a week on wine / beer (more of it and more expensive stuff).

How much do you spend?

DH is teetotal due to being on some serious meds for the rest of his life. Them and alcohol would kill him. I don't drink in solidarity because before the meds we both liked the odd drink and it seems bloody unfair to be sat there with a glass of wine in front of him.
That said I did have a glass of wine at my sisters at Christmas and was shitfaced half way down the glass. Seems I can't take it anymore.

More money for chocolate then.Grin

upahill · 13/04/2011 14:36

We don't go out and specificaly buy booze but when DH gets the shopping in he will often buy me a couple of bottles of fruit cider if they are on offer.
Usually I only drink when I'm out but occasionly I fancy a drink once I get to sit down for the rest of the evening.( usually around 10.30 /11.00pm)

Chil1234 · 13/04/2011 23:31

Don't drink that much and, being a singleton, opening a whole bottle of wine is pretty extravagant! So wine only gets drunk if I have friends over for supper.

ConnorTraceptive · 13/04/2011 23:35

£0

not tee total can just take or leave it tbh

noddyholder · 14/04/2011 08:53

Depends what we are doing and who is coming round. I don't buy wine with my supermarket shop. We only drink water with meals and I will have a glass of wine after dinner while relaxing if I feel like it. Dp is teetotal.I buy wine usually in 'bulk' if I am having dinner parties and it usually lasts. Last month we had the book group here and I ended up with about 8 bottles of new wines which I have been gradually trying!

RenniesFromHeaven · 14/04/2011 08:58

Prob about a tenner a week, and I guess we spend about £100 a week on groceries including that, for four of us.

Yeah, it does seem like a lot at 10% of our bill but wine is a pleasure of life, no?

MorningCoffee · 14/04/2011 08:59

£0

Asinine · 14/04/2011 09:07

About 1or 2 bottles of wine between two per week, fairly cheap, so £4-£8.

SpawnChorus · 16/04/2011 20:38

Saturday evening bump, because I'm gobsmacked that I appear to be an abnormally high booze-spender Shock Grin

Still zero. I can think of better things to do with even £3-£4. It costs too much.

monkeyplayszeebongos · 16/04/2011 20:58

not much but luckily i have inexpensive tastes Grin

only joking like Wink

glitterkitty · 16/04/2011 21:03

I'm spending about £25 a week on wine. That's just for me, have really got to cut it back

glitterkitty · 16/04/2011 21:16

LOL spawn wine is necessary. As is dark choc and crisps Grin

mumblechum1 · 16/04/2011 21:18

About £50 pwk (2 bottles of wine, maybe two bottles of nice cider.)

SpawnChorus · 16/04/2011 21:20

You've just reminded me about my dark choc. And crisps. And wine.

Meglet · 16/04/2011 21:21

I get a couple of bottles of wine a month, some of that usually ends up in cooking. Only the wines that are on offer though, ie; the nice £10 wines that are down to £5-ish.

So probably £10 a month.

overthehillmum · 16/04/2011 21:24

I personally don't spend any money on booze, my other half buys home brews kits and I end up with 60 bottles of white wine, and he makes his own beer.....I think he told me it works out to about £1 a bottle of wine....I am having a glass just now, its lovely, we decided to cut back on drink and this was his decision instead of going teetotal....Wine

JellyMould · 16/04/2011 21:26

Probs about £30? We get a case of wine every 3 months for £90, plus probs one of us will have a night out once a week (maybe £15-20), then buy extra bits and bobs.

gillybean2 · 18/04/2011 21:35

Zero. But I do buy a couple of bottles of evian a week; that's my indulgent treat.

PurpleLostPrincess · 19/04/2011 00:17

£0.
Might buy a few bits around Christmas time or on holiday but rarely drink. Not for any particular reason, just not that bothered about having a hangover with a toddler these days!

midlandsmumof4 · 21/04/2011 00:31

I'm going to be really honest on this. About £30 per week although we don't drink this amount ourselves. We re subsidising 4 sons & their partners..
