how to recive money from canada

A friend in canada owes me three hundred pounds. How can i get them to send it to me? I need to be able to tell them in simple terms how to send it to me, as they arent overly keen to do so. I rather naively assumed a simple bank to bank transfer could be done, as can be in this country, but, they were talking about western union and it costing them 40 dollars to do so. quite frankly i would rather get back the money less $40 than nothing at all.
do any mumsnetters know how this owuld work?

Could you do it through paypal?
Sure they can do it if they have a credit card.
Fees are about £10 on £300 payment in UK, not sure how much would work out at from Canada though.

Yes as long as they have the money in their account should be ok.

Why can't they do a bank to bank transfer? That's how my ex pays his maintenance from USA. Can't imagine Canada is much different. It costs me something like £6 to receive it and he has to pay a fee to send it but it's not huge.

You simply need to give them your international bank details sort code and acccount number (these should appear on any statement but if in doubt ask in your branch and are recognised in europe but some othe rcountries are a bit behind and need more info too). So it helps if you also give them details of the bank name, address, your full name (as per bank account) as well as the account number and sort code.

If they really can't do that then you need a travellers cheque made in your name which shouldn't cost too much. Western Union works but probably one of the more expensive ways to send cash.
