Tax credits while waiting for housing benefit decision

My husband and i have separated an i have applied for housing benefit. I have been told i have to inform tax credits of the change and close our joint account with tax credits and reapply for a single parent tax credit account. We used to get working and child tax credit as my husband worked full time im worried that they will stop my money and only pay child tax credit and leave me nothing to live on. Is there some kind of bridging payment they pay until my other benefits come through??

You must notify them within one month and start a single claim or they will be asking you to pay back the overpayment. Talk to your local Citizens Advice Bureau about what other benefits you may be entitled to.

I have just done this and am now better off,go onto entitledto.com website and put your details in as a single claimant, they got it exactly right for me,all the best x
