Is there VAT on second hand cars?

Do I need to dash out and buy one today rather than tomorrow?

A VAT-registered trader must charge VAT on second-hand cars, although many operate a scheme where VAT is only charged on the profit element of the sale.

But VAT changes don't necessarily mean that prices go up - a car that says £2995 on the screen today is unlikely to have £3058.72 on the screen next week.

If you do think you will get a better deal by negotiating under the old rates, the change takes effect on Tuesday so you have a slightly longer window to do the deal.

yes, there is

but you can always haggle so i shouldn't worry too much

Oh!
CarGiant told me they didn't charge VAT! Bizarre.
They are not open to haggling, either, but if it doesn't take effect until Tue, I'm OK!
Thanks.
