Help for a friend - Tax credits overpayments

Creole · 19/09/2005 11:12

My friend has been informed by the Inland Revenue that she was overpaid £5K and has to pay it back by 19th Oct.

I've advised her to contact the CAB for advice on appealing.

Anyone been through this and what advice can you give? What is the likelihood of the debt being cancelled?

Any words of wisdom?

how can they over pay by 5k? stupid idiots! i was over payed but they just didn't pay me for about 2months until it was repayed

She has to appeal and with the appeal form..which is 2 sides of a4 include a letter. I had a letter saying i was overpaid by 2K and am waiting for outcome of appeal. In the mean time they have completely stopped my tax credits.

I'm overpaId 1.5k and rising. I'm putting it in a separate account but the overpayment keeps coming.....have phoned and they can't help.......

Nemo, can you tell me more about the appeal form, I'd really appreciate it.

We've been overpaid £1900 and as a result they've stopped our tax credits completely.

Like Nemo, we're appealing. But apparently, unless it can be demonstrated the fault lies w/HM REvenues & Customs, we'll still have to repay it, even though it was directly the fault of the Tax Credit Office not correcting its errors despite our informing them in writing via registered delivery. Over and over again.

Do your pal a big favour: don't vote Labour.

So no one has taken on the Inland Revenue and won?
