Put this in money as its a dreary question which is fundamentally about money!

I've moved into a new house with gas central heating but my electricity company are telling me I'm on economy 7? Can anyone tell me why I would be on economy 7?

I thought it was usual for places with storage heaters etc, my meter has two rates on the screen a day and a night rate but i had this in my last house as I though a day and night rate were standard etc?

im very confused, what will this mean for my bills if anything?

The night rate is low priced, about seven hours from about midnight until 7.00 am. Then the rate you pay for electricity during the day is more expensive than people on one standard rate pay. If you no longer have night storage heaters, ask electric board to change your meter and tarriff.

Im really confused as they are still offering me the reduced online rate etc etc.

The house cant have had storage heaters, it was built post war and has a relatively old heating system. I'll ask them if it can be changed though...

Is it a remote farm house?

Has it got a electricity board clock near to the meter?

Nope and Nope. Im in a really busy street in a town. The meter is electric digital display...

right you prompted me to climb in the cupboard understairs with a torch.

It says multi rate meter property of eon, but attached it a luggage label that says on the 13/01/10 meter xxxxxx was removed with readings blah blah and new meter number xxxxxx was installed. It says eon but im now with npower, is it possible that the meter used to be economy 7 and was changed in jan and so npower dont know about it?

I would suggest that you ask your current supplier to change you to the normal single domestic tarrif. If you have no storage radiators economy 7 rate will cost you money.
