How can I cut the cost of getting to work?

I've just gone back to work now my youngest child is going to nursery. I've had to take a job 20 miles from home, so it's a 40 mile round trip every day, and the petrol costs (on top of nursery fees) means I'm hardly making any money! Has anyone else had this problem? There are no suitable buses and the train costs even more. I want to work but am not sure it's financially viable??!!

Can you lift share with anyone nearby?

Ask at work if anyone would like to car share? Happens a lot where I work (we have no parking though).

I know your problem Joanna!! Anyone at work you can share with? My office only has 12 staff - none living near me - but Google found me liftshare.com where I found two other people going the same way as me, which has been brilliant. (There's another site called carshare.com I think which does the same thing.) It's sociable too - we're all parents and have a real laugh which cheers you up at the end of a long day. Good luck :)

Many thanks to all three of you!
Jessica - I tried the carshare.com site you mentioned and found several people doing the same journey. Am going to do my first share on Monday - am soooo excited!! If it works out, I am going to be one happy bunny :-)
