In south london. Currently pay £68/month contents/buildings in combined policy. Loft conversion is going to mean extra £48/month. Am gobsmacked. Thought it might be about 20. Anyone else get huge hike or do I need to change my provider?

I would definately shop round - that's a lot for buildings and contents! Ours is £25 per month for both on a 3 bed terrace in a town centre/high crime area.

Crikey - we have a 5 bed detached in surrey and pay about £75/month combined (Barclays). Shop around!

Yes. When I get time to do it properly (DC's in day camp in a fortnight.... looking forward!!!) I will drill down on it.
