I was really pleased to see this book arrive as I have read some of the author's other stuff and really enjoyed them, although they are often hard to get into but rewarding and unputdownable afterwards.

I wasn't as keen on this one as the others, it's very much a fairy-tale which is not really my cup of tea!

I also think it would be better read in a short period of time, I enjoyed it when I started it, then I left it for a couple of weeks because I was so busy with the end of term, and then finished it over Christmas.

I kind of lost the thread and as it all hangs together very well that was a pity.

I did really like the dream-like quality to it and the writing is often quite funny too.

I think it is something that I would quite like to read to my children in a few years, it's a bit like Alice in Wonderland.

I have just received this and am really looking forward to reading it.

I made the same mistake as jamais - I started it and then put it down - but I then couldn't quite work up the necessary imagination (in my case) to pick it up again.

I did a bit of research into the whole allegory of the book - how it is based on the authors' stifled creativity (or rather the catastrophic reactions to his creativity and the effect that has on him).

Sadly I couldn't get very far with it, although it is well written and the magical, fairytale like qualities do make it a book I would like to go back to. It's a book that I would keep and take on holiday when I could just sit and read without distractions - right now my brain can't really focus on anything other than WHEN IS MY BABY GOING TO ARRIVE!

I agree with jamais that it is a good book to read to older children.

I'm sending this on without finishing it. I must admit I was a little uncertain when I saw who it was by not wanting anything really heavy so was very suprised when I started Reading it. I agree that if it was read very quickly rather than in bursts it might have made me read it all quicker.

The Authors name should be hidden so that people arent put off reading this!!

In one word I would sum up this book as ...... WEIRD.

In two words ......... seriously weird!

I would NEVER have given this a second glance in a book shop, but surprisingly got into it very quickly and read it within 24 hours. (lazy day ) I am not sure I am converted to this type of novel, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Dont be put off by the Author, it is soooo unlike anything I ever expected it to be. Being a novice at this sort of book I would advise getting stuck in and reading it with a very open mind. - Your mind wont stay open for long. I even began to think in short sentences and weird visions! Spookily odd!!
