I found this book promised a lot in the way of a family saga and I was looking forward to some social commentary on the changing times the women lived through, but I found it lacked depth at all times. The family saga was a bit tedious - the characters weren't very likeable. Any kind of social commentary barely scratched the surface.

It was an ok book, easy to read but the characters and story lacked any kind of depth and the character development was a bit weak.

Sorry to be hyper-critical! I did finish it...

Oh what do I write??

After the first 75 pages I thought it was the most awful book I had bothered to read. The characters were plain horrible and irritated me to the nth degree. The storyline was lame and seemed to be going nowhere very slowly.

The middle section of the book then changed my mind totally and I warmed to a couple of the characters. It seemed to be going somewhere and I finally was enjoying reading it.

Then the last 50 pages were just back to how I felt at the start. The storyline seemed to dwindle towards the end. I felt it was like a child at school who got fed up with writing a story half way through and so threw an ending together without putting any detail in or explanation. There was so much more that could have been put into the storyline.

Overall I am glad I read the book. It is worth persevering with, but dont expect a dynamic ending. I would not buy a book by the author in the future, but the joy of the bookswaps is that you read what you would not normally read, so for that it was good.

Sorry, I dont mean to critise it so much. The middle part was really good.

One thing I got out of this book is the lovely saying that is the title.

I quite enjoyed this book. It wasn't a book that I was desperate to pick up whilst reading it but I am glad I finished it. I agree with positive attitude the middle section was the best part and I warmed to the character of Ginger. I felt the ending was a little disappointing. All in all, I am glad I read it but it didn't leave a lasting impression with me.

I loved the style of writing in the book - the little family saying gave it real personality.

so that was the good - now the bad:

I have a real phobia of reading a book that doesn't tell you what it's about on the back (I have very little me time I supose so I need to know if the book is worth investing in!) - this book only had reviews and soundbites on the back. I was brave and started it but by the end had worked out that the reason it didn't say what the story was is because there was no story. The book was more of a Blog/diary of three people's lives. It left me wanting more - the book was quite short and with another hundred pages could have made a really good story, I agree with PA - it was as though the author was going to miss a deadline so rushed through to the end.

The next book to have come through also has no blurb on the back and it's making me a bit worried!
