Can't remember what it is called....I'll come back later with a clue

If this hadn't been a bk club book, I would have given up n it after a couple of chapters. I found the first third really difficult to get into, but then something clicked and I flew through the last two thirds in a couple of days.

TBT...I disliked the death as narrator thing. It was largely un necessary and every now `and then reminded me, but seemed very contrived.

I loved this and I wrote a lovely review which I then deleted by mistake and am now on attempt 2 since I came back to check and found that it wasn't there. Bother! I thought that Death was a key part of this and that his narrative added to the story and really built the dramatic tension well. Just as you thought that it was going to be alright for a character, he would drop in the phrase, 'and it was content, for the next six weeks but then all was to change...' or something of that ilk and then, of course, everything that yuo subsequently read was tinged with the anticipation of the awfulness to come. A good read - thanks

I liked this book - it was not a run of the mill Nazi Germany tale - but more concentrated on the smaller village in the middle of nowhere who were affected by the bleakness of living in that time - but it also shows hope and love and kindness and words and music in the midst of the bleakness.

I wasnt too perturbed by Death as a narrator - it seemed to add a twist to it, but then I found out that it was a young adult book but it didnt come across as that.

Anyway, not a book for the beach or a sunny day - great then for this lovely wet weather we are having at the moment!
