swissmiss · 07/06/2009 19:06

I'd love to join a book swap and as the others are all up and running I thought I'd try for a new one.

If you'd like to join please add your name and I'll have a go at getting it sorted.

Any takers?

How it works

CandleQueen · 09/06/2009 12:51

So no chick lit. That's like Celia Ahern and that sort of trash.
Is Richard & Judy Bookclub acceptable??

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 13:11

@ CandleQueen - yes on both counts.

Call me dense but what is mis-lit?

OP posts:
cathcat · 09/06/2009 13:17

Mystery lit, I'm guessing. Haven't read any myself.

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 13:26

ah, with you now. would that be stuff like twilight - which i've not read and have no plans to!

general question - pre-20th cent - would that be authors or storyline? i'd say authors but am open to persuasion!

OP posts:
cathcat · 09/06/2009 13:35

I would say authors too. Got to go out but thank you Swissmiss for organising this

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 13:44

so here goes....

my email is: aquas _ vie @ live dot co dot uk without the spaces.

if each of you could email me by 15th June:

  1. mn name
  2. real name
  3. address to send book to
  4. your book choice and author

i will then email each of you back with the details of the person below you on the list and the full book list.

anyone want to come up with a name for our swap group? so we can keep track of our discussion threads per book it'd be easier if we have fun/cool name. ideas please?

swissmiss
wheelybug
cathcat
headintheclouds
simpson
caykon
steamedtraclesponge
moominmy mbleandmy
madamy
candlequeen
jackbauer

OP posts:
swissmiss · 09/06/2009 13:47

no worries cathcat - atm it beats retreating to my office upstairs and trying to do dh's accounts whilst keeping the 3 children occupied. moi - procrastinating - surely not!

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 09/06/2009 14:21

Well done for organising Swissmiss.

Will have a peruse of my bookshelves and email you asap !

madamy · 09/06/2009 14:37

So do I choose a book of mine that I have read and enjoyed to pass on? It then does the rounds over 12 months, so that by the end we've all read all of the books? Then do we all comment each month?

Sorry - am not feeling 100% today so brain a bit woozy!!

headintheclouds · 09/06/2009 14:58

Mis-lit is misery lit, all those dreadful stories about abuse and neglect (they have their own dept/genre in some bookshops now-I just find them sooo depressing and cant bear to read them since children came along!!!

simpson · 09/06/2009 15:32

Oooh yes no mis-lit for me either. Sooo depressing.

Was another one who was wondering what mis-lit was

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 15:44

@madamy - that's how i understand it.

thanks for explanation hitc. i agree - no mis-lit for me either please.

1 more place going.... any interest.... anybody?

OP posts:
cathcat · 09/06/2009 16:56

Oops not mystery lit then! No, no misery for me either.
Btw how did you get your name Swissmiss; are we posting to Switzerland?!

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 17:11

no, not posting to Switzerland! My Mum is Swiss and lives there and I did for most of the '90s but I'm back in the UK now. My Dad always used to call me "little miss" so I stuck the two together.

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 09/06/2009 20:12

email sent Swissmiss !

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 20:42

wheelybug - email rec'd
cathcat
headintheclouds
simpson
caykon
steamedtraclesponge
moominmy mbleandmy
madamy
candlequeen
jackbauer
lightshinesinthedarkn..

now all i need is from you is:

my email is: aquas _ vie @ live dot co dot uk without the spaces.

  1. mn name
  2. real name
  3. address to send book to

OP posts:
swissmiss · 09/06/2009 20:53

everyone happy if we avoid the following genres:
chick-lit
non-fiction
sci-fi
pre-20th cent authors
mis-lit (abuse/neglegt) ??

also thought that only paperbacks might be a good idea? hardbacks will get pricy on postage.

one more thing, remember to write you mn name inside the book so in 12mths time you get your own book back.

off to browse thru the shelves and make my choice.....

OP posts:
simpson · 09/06/2009 20:55

Oh good idea writing MN name inside book

Off to have a think too...

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 09/06/2009 21:06

Oooh - I'm sooo excited.

We could call ourselves 'The Fur Quits'.

JackBauer · 09/06/2009 21:20

The search is not going well, I can't decide!

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 21:25

JB - my search would be going better if i actually stepped away from my pc!

LSITD - The Fur Quits??? sorry, don't get that at all, i must be missing something?

OP posts:
swissmiss · 09/06/2009 21:27

at the moment the only read here is sage instant accounts user manual or a bunch of inland revenue booklets, don't think any of you'd appricate that. shucks non-fiction's not allowed so they're ruled out.

OP posts:
JackBauer · 09/06/2009 21:40

LightShines is being rude

headintheclouds · 09/06/2009 21:51

SM -Thanks for organising this-Im up at 0300 to catch a plane for my conference-back on Sunday and will email details then-Are you sure you dont mind getting the book title sent to you(you will end up not getting a surprise, cos you'll know everyone's book. )From what Ive seen of other threads people have sent initials of their book choice-ie HL-CITR , to signify Harper Lee,Catcher in the Rye, for instance. Everyone else in the circle will get a surprise book but you'll be deprived

swissmiss · 09/06/2009 21:55

HITC - as long as i get your info by monday evening it'll be fine, no rush to sort it on sunday as soon as your back.

thanks for your concern, tbh i'm not that bothered about my knowing the full titles but i'll make sure i use only initials on the list.
