want to join a book club

hello, i am new to MN and very interested in the book club. can i join one please - thanks

There are two different book things on MN; one is book of the month where everyone goes out and buys the same book and discusses it at the end of the month (this month's is Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides).

The other is the book swaps, where about 12 people put their names on a list; you then each choose a book and post it to the next person on the list (you email each other your addresses) once a month, so in theory everyone gets a new book every month and at the end of the year the books have all gone back to their original owners. In practise it's rather more chaotic than this but I've been in one for a year and a half now and I love it!

It's kind of tricky to join one once they're going but if you lurk around on these pages you might find another one starting up soon; otherwise, start your own; just post a message with a title like, New book swap starting up, sign up here. Good luck!

Hi Aristocat. I'd be up for joining a new one - maybe we could see if we can get some recruits?

Just started reading again now that DS is nearly 8 months. I'm not very adventurous though so would be good to have someone else choose something for me!

What do you reckon? Anyone else up for it?

sorry didnt check yesterday, computer kept giving me error page wanted to throw it out the window had to be patient & its ok now !!

Haha, no not done this before - not sure what I'm letting myself in for! Hope I haven't nicked your idea - got a bit over-excited at the thought of it...

it sounds easy enough to exchange books each month - just need to recruit 7 more.
