Fingers crossed this will arrive sometime next week.

I only got the address the day before I was leaving the country...

I had it all wrapped up and printed off a postage label from the post office website, then when I get to the airport they have bomb-proof postboxes and the book won't fit in the slot.

So I gave it to a nice man who said he would put it in the letterbox on his way home.

Like I said, fingers crossed.

I am oddly excited by this (saw it at Psycho's today) - we had one by the same author last time and I loved it

TrillianAstra · 05/01/2009 07:00

So it turned up? Yay!

This one is his first book, and it has his most-recurring main character, so if you like it there are lots more to read.

Hope you're having a good January, mine is great [smug I'm on holiday emoticon]

psychohohohoho · 05/01/2009 07:51

just found this....yep, it came.

flame more excited than me, I must admit, but I tried one of his books before and it was not one of my faves........I am determined this year tho to try harder than one chapter before giving up on books!

psychomum5 · 13/01/2009 07:57

started the book the other day (was on patricia cornwells 'scarpetta', but cannot get into it so gave up for this book).

tis good, which I am really pleased about as I found it hard to get into another one by the same author, but one problem.......keep finding myself reading it in the accent it is set in......most odd!

VampiresWalkin · 13/01/2009 08:18

See

psychomum5 · 13/01/2009 08:30

ahh....was it the other book that you said you were doing this in??

VampiresWalkin · 13/01/2009 08:31

Nope (or maybe), I dunno. Beloved was my most recent

VampiresWalkin · 13/01/2009 08:31

See was about them being good books

psychomum5 · 18/01/2009 11:19

I have finished the book

I liked it, it was good, but ever-so-slightly choppy between all the characters. plus a couple of characters had similarish names which got confusing.

not sure tho, TBVH, if I would rush out to buy any of his books.

TrillianAstra · 01/02/2009 22:12

Who had similarish names? I can't think now...

I find I can't read books set in japan (or fantasy books set in quasi-Japanese settings, more specifically) because I can't pronounce the names in my head and they are too similar, so I get confused and bogged down.

Flamesparrow · 01/02/2009 22:44

I'm guessing you mean Parlabane & Ponsonby?

TrillianAstra · 02/02/2009 09:15

Ah, see I didn't have a problem with that at all, but it may be because I didn't read the books in order and so Parlabane's name was quite familiar to me byt the time I got around to reading this book.

Flamesparrow · 02/02/2009 09:20

I'm not having a problem either, Psycho reads things differently to normal folk

Flamesparrow · 02/02/2009 21:49

Grrr damn all books that have the start of another one at the end! You think you have more to go and then realise you don't

I enjoyed it He appeals to my sense of humour Did prefer Sacred Art Of Stealing but I'm not too sure why...

TrillianAstra · 09/02/2009 16:55

Maybe it's on purpose, if you know the book is about to finish you make assumptions. I wish somehow there could be more pages than you think.

The tell-tale thinning of the pages...

I'm sure it's a quote from something, any clues?

squilly · 22/03/2009 16:42

I think I know what this one is! If it's who I think it is, he's one of my faves...and I always read in accent. Can't do anything but!

Am hoping it is and looking forward to re-reading.

TrillianAstra · 22/03/2009 19:40

Oops, just realised that further up I actually said the name of the main character.

So yes, it is what you think. But only people who had read it would know it, so I don't think it's too bad a spoiler, is it?

squilly · 22/03/2009 20:41

No Trillian...as you say, not much of a spoiler if you don't know the names.

Oooohhh...I love this author

Flamesparrow · 19/04/2009 18:08

Was it you who sent the last one Squilly? (were you in the swap last time? brain of sieve)
