Ooh, was this the first in the series?? That explains something about last year's books: someone put one of his in the swap, and I enjoyed it but was irritated by the amount of time it spent referring to backstories from other novels. I thought this one did much better.
I was totally gripped by this - finished in a couple of days, took it everywhere with me. I know the plot was slightly farfetched and one or two of the characters a little bit 2D, but wow he can keep it moving! And I thought that device of having passages in an unidentified third person, so you're never quite sure whether you're hearing the killer or someone else speaking, worked really really well - created a great atmosphere of murky ambiguity.
Thanks so much for picking this one - it's the kind of book I never buy for myself, yet I REALLY enjoyed it
