normally am on the wine, but gin and slimline tonic is better for my hips!!

and besides, I am hosting a dinner party for DH's dads 70th tomorrow and cooking for 15........and will be on the wine then (DH got me 3 bottles to cope), so tis gin tonight!

I read this in record time - fantastic, it's been raved about elsewhere on Mumsnet and it really is a brilliant read. If it'd seen it in a bookshop I would have avoided it because I would have expected it to be distressing, but the focus is on personalities and events leading up to war not so much the war itself.

I loved the author's voice; i found all teh characters intriguing (not all likeable but i was interested in all of them); the storyline was very personal as well as informative.

brilliant choice swampster, thanks

Hey missingtheaction, so glad you enjoyed it - but you put me to shame. I'm surfing MN and FB while holding a sleeping sproglet when I should be reading - and I AM really looking forward to getting stuck in to mine.

Am I reading this now??? (Sun?)

AlienSwampMonster · 11/06/2008 00:10

Yup. Hope you enjoy it.

Flamesparrow · 11/06/2008 07:45

I am so far

Flamesparrow · 24/06/2008 18:37

Fabulous!

I (am ashamed to say) knew very little/nothing of the war. I have gone off and done research now!

Amazing book.
