OK - second try at this since I managed to mispell the title of the thread. Doh.

OK. BIt of an odd one this. I chose it because it is a book that despite having read it some time ago, still resonates and unsettles me.

I enjoyed it, although I don't know whether some might find it too unsettling given the themes of the story - I don't want to say too much as it would give away the plot and I think it is better read when you aren't quite sure what is going on (as the children in the book aren't either).

Having read some reviews of it, I hadn't really realised what my main thought throughout had been which was "why don't they run?"

I hope the other quichey book clubbers like it, and if not, at least find it interesting and thought provoking. And hopefully more discussion when a few more of us have read it!

Yes - sorry - put on the 'getting organised' thread that I am a dimwit and can't spell!! Not sure what was going through my head when I first did it. Clearly not thinking about the title!

Finished! I loved this book. I keep telling people about it now. The way you say is to read it without knowing what is going on. I kept finding myself telling people (who I know wouldn't read it) what had happened so far and asking them what they think is happening. I normally do not try to work out what is going on in books or films but I really couldn't help it with this one.

I kept wondering from about the 'possibles' bit with the office trip - why don't they run? Maybe there is some sort of tracking device?

I did find it unsettling when I discovered what was going on and it did make me wonder.. If this was real what would I think if I needed or someone I knew needed them. (I am being vague because I am not sure how much detail to put in case I give the story away)

I want to say something about the ending but I don't know quite what I am thinking..

Thank you for sending me this because I really wouldn't have chose this for myself and I really enjoyed it. Even if I have read it early in our circle.
