QUICHE BOOK CLUB - KF BY LC

Sorry - I posted this without being explicit that it was our quiche club!

This is the first of a series of, I think 10. I didn't read this one first - I bought one at random as it was being promoted in the bookshop.

To be honest it's not normally a genre that I read, but there was something about the central character that I really enjoyed, and found myself totally gripped by him and the storyline. (I don't actually think this is the best one)

In the space of about a month I had managed to buy and read all of the series - and got his latest (in hardback) for Christmas.

Received this title today
Can't wait to start reading it. I will wait until dc are in bed or I will end up reading the same page 4 times.

jezzemx · 21/01/2008 19:41

I really liked this book.
I must admit when I started reading it I thought it was a bit of a "blokes" book [?] and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it.
It was easy to pick up and put down but once I had reached the end of Chapter 9 I was hooked !!!! I honestly couldn't put it down (my poor abandoned children)
There were enough twists in the story to give you pulled muscles!!!!
BIWI you are right. I was totally gripped by the central character and the characters close to him were very likeable.
I'm looking forward to reading more of the series
By the way BIWI I'm wondering if the theme tune to "The Littlest Hobo" (70's American kids programme) was ringing in your ears when you had finished the book? It was ringing in mine!!!!

BIWI · 22/01/2008 12:40

I've never heard of that show, jezze! But I can certainly imagine the film. I have some very pleasurable moments imagining what the central character would be like/who would play him!

I'm so relieved that you enjoyed it as I did feel it was a bit of a risky choice (as well as being a bit low brow ).

Now you have another 9 or so to go and buy! And some of the others are much better I think.

havalina · 18/02/2008 01:02

Thanks I recieved this book the other day and am already halfway through. It's bizarre that the first 2 books I got are the kind of books I would pick myself. Looking forward to finishing it thanks

BurpyErnie · 20/03/2008 15:31

Got the book today.

havalina · 03/05/2008 02:20

Hi all, have to say I had mixed feelings about this book, it was well plotted and written etc. Just didn't really grab me, and I thought it was a bit sexist really. Well maybe not sexist, but I don't really go for the manly man kills 6 with his little finger, goes home and willing pointless women already has legs open kind of books iyswim. The female in this book only seemed to appear sans clothes, which did rile me, but I have been assured that his other books aren't the same, so shall keep an open mind.

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/05/2008 13:26

I think the others are better, havalina - I sent this one because it is the very first book of the 10 or so he's written.

Worth trying another one!

I really liked this book. Have already read one of the more recent ones, so was looking forward to it anyway.

With good twist and turns in the story, the ending wasn't what I expected tbh!

kslatts · 11/07/2008 10:12

I really enjoyed this book and would consider more from this series in the future.

There were some good twists and turns and I found I really wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next.

thegrowlygus · 21/07/2008 11:50

Oh sorry...didn't like it!
Didn't like the writing style more than anything, I just felt that everything had to be explained in intense detail and it began to get on my nerves. I also didn't like Reacher at all. Perhaps that was my problem - not liking the central character. Mainly, like havalina says, I wasn't keen on the "killed 4 men before breakfast" kind of thing going on. PLus his deductions about where to find someone seemed a little ludicrous (won't say who as don't want to give too much away!)

I did like the barbers though.

ellceeell · 21/11/2008 14:06

oh, I liked the barbers too! Not my normal sort of book but I decided to persevere and I'm glad I did. Made me want to read more but not enough to actually buy the books - hope I can get them from the library.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/12/2008 15:39

I read but didn't overly enjoy it. I found the writing style really annoying and also I didn't like the hero, thought he loved himself too much, also the blurb on the back of the book irritated me.
