I hope you like this book! It's a short one, but I think very powerful, both in the way it captures the beauty and claustrophobia of the remote North Welsh valleys, and in the tragic relationship between Joseph and Bronwen. One of those books which, for me, the atmosphere created stays in your mind forever. Not the jolliest though Wink!

A few weeks later and I am still not sure what to make of this book. I did like its atmosphere and the setting but for me there seemed to be something missing at the heart of it, I think because the relationship was so 'talked about' rather than lived through, if that makes any sense.

I am just about to send this book onto the next reader. I was quite surprised at the intensity of the writing - yet it was a slow read.

I agree SLF that it is a very powerful book and definitely one of those that stays with you after reading it!
