Room by Emma Donoghue

Thanks for your book Discotex.
It's one of those books it is hard to put down and I really enjoyed it. I wished it had been longer though and gone into more depth at times. She seemed to rush through parts (or maybe that was my quick reading!) my main gripe being the escape which seemed to be a little bit too easy.
Jack was just such a lovely lad. So accepting of his world in Room and of his mums shutting down.
I love the fact that I'm still thinking about the characters. It's not often that happens to me when I read a book.

Looking forward to the next book soon.

I'd been wanting to read this book for a while - I almost bought it on my last trip back to the UK, in fact - so was quite excited to see that it was this month's book.

I also found it hard to put down, although I did feel that the story fizzled out a little towards the end. The first half of the book was utterly compelling, although I did find the style of writing took some getting used to, especially the lack of nouns (Bed, Wardrobe, etc.). It was also interesting to see how a setting that would be incredibly claustrophic and depressing for us (and obviously was for Ma) was such a safe haven for Jack.

All in all, a powerful and moving read - uncomfortable in places, but you really care about the characters and what happens to them.
