I'm here just to get the thread started at the moment - there's not a lot I can say about it that won't be self-explanatory until you read it.

I really liked this book - I read a lot of books and this is one of the more recent ones. It really stood out to me because it was an easy, compelling read and I found the characters engaging. I'll admit that it isn't the most literary book in the world, but I found it enjoyable and quite clever, actually

We read this at our book club recently (real life book club!) so I remember it quite clearly.

I had read 'Starter for ten' by the same author a few years ago & distinctly remember how enjoyable (and funny) I had found that. Yes, not a literary read, but doesn't matter at all to me if it's an enjoyable read!

I found 'One day' good, also funny & enjoyable. There were other people in our book club that really disliked it & found the characters (particularly Dexter) annoying. I really liked both Dexter & Emma though, so for me the characters were indeed really nice & engaging. I also liked all the '80s stuff, probably because that was when I grew up too- kind of have the same age as the characters- so enjoyed all the pop culture stuff in the book. The ending though was horrid, felt as if the author was trying to do something 'serious' & end the book on a sombre note & I don't see the point for doing that after a read that was otherwise quite light-hearted.

All in all, thought this book was a step above chic lit stuff, and done quite well. Found it an enjoyable, light read. I agree by the way with those who think this book was written with a potential film remake in mind!

I liked this book - i actually laughed out loud at one point (something i rarely do) but i cant remember at what now; probably something Emma said. I really liked Emma, not too keen on Dexter, and i have no idea what Emma saw in him.

It was a very engaging and enjoyable read and i rather liked the premise of looking at one day per year - althought the chances of everything memorable occuring on that day are slim, the idea is a good one. It would be interesting to write a diary like that - say each year on your birthday write a few pages. Hmm, i may do that

i liked this book a lot and, like Maria, had read it for book club. It totally pulled me along and I really wanted to know how the characters ended up. I also liked the format of catching up with the characters on one day of each year.

The ending was a total downer and wasn't necessary. It was never going to be high literature so the author should have ended it as he set out - on an upbeat note.

this book arrived for me today and unfortunately i have already read it recently.

i did enjoy the book and it is good; however i didnt think it was as good as i expected it to be (there was so much hype about it being fantastic)

i agree that the ending was unnecessary,but i loved the diary theme to the book and being an 80s girl it was easy to relate to.
