I conceived DS immediatly after my 3rd mc. The recurrent mc consultant said that unless you had had a late or complicated mc, there was no reason to wait.

So sorry for your loss, and crossing fingers for you in the future

GrumpyFish · 07/06/2010 21:23

I conceived 2 weeks after a very early mc (about 5+1 going by ov date, slightly later by LMP date but I ov late), and went on to miscarry again at 6+4. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear! Have left TTC for a few months this time (MC happened after I'd just stopped BF DS at 15 months, so I think my body might just have been exhausted from it all) and am taking 5mg folic acid tabs plus pregnacare (religiously) and trying to eat very healthily (lots of protein +the usual fruit / veg etc). I've been seeing an accupuncturist who recommended stocking up on vitamins, sleep etc, so if you're trying to TTC again now I'd follow that advice too. Good luck, there are lots of positive stories on here from people who conceive right after a miscarriage.

I also conceived after a mc, before a period. No complictions, DS was fine.

Oh, and I had had 3 previous mcs before that, and had always waited for my first period before, and then went on to miscarry again.

I also was told that if it's an early mc then should all be fine.

busymum05 · 07/06/2010 22:51

Thanks, all seems positive, i was 8weeks by lmp, I'm already taking pregnacare and have been since the mc all the medical reasons just seem to ask u to wait for dating, how did any if you guys know how pg you were in the early weeks as my doc has said if I do fall straight away to go in for early scan to check all is well but how will I know how far I am??? I have also read that most women don't ovulate untillvafter avfirst period but I've seen so many women on here that have fallen pg before.... It's all so confusing!!!!

Hi Busymum05!...I'm in the same boat as you, had MC on 21st of May, and TTC now (not right now ) I was 6 weeks, and have been told by so many that because it was an early loss I should just try when I am ready?.
The whole waiting till first AF is for dating?...I have read that you can be more fertile after MC just like after giving birth?.
I thing it varies on each individual, but I am feeling ok, and bleeding lasted about a week and suddenly stopped, unlike a AF.

Curious about you being advised to go for an early scan if you get BFP? my doctor said I would just have to treat it as a new normal pregnancy?, think thats a bit pants as will be very concerned, and like you wont really know dates?....

Hope you are feeling ok, and hope we both have some good news soon!!! x

hello, i had my second m/c in dec and when i went back for my second scan on the 23rd i had stopped bleeding so we ttc straight away and i fell pregnant again on about the 26th!!! Unfortunatly i lost the baby at 8 weeks but i know alot of ppl who have had the same and gone to have perfect babys. some doctors ask you to wait because its easy for them to date the pregnancy, which i found out as i had no idea how many weeks i was until i had an early scan!
hope all goes well, fingers crossed for you xxx

sh77 · 08/06/2010 11:48

hey

so sorry for your loss.

i mcs in november. it took 9 weeks for my period to return. i had a scan 8 weeks after mc and was told my lining had not thickened sufficiently for implantation and to wait ttc until 1st period.

many women do get preg straight after mc and carry just fine.
xx

Hi again ljg72,
im on the march bus in the conception threads, good luck to both of us then lets hope we get what we want very soon.
Im still spotting so can't try yet and its getting very frustrating, i suppose it does'nt matter how long to wait as it seems some have good outcomes and some unfortunaly MC again, i thin k it will be nerve wracking whenever i fall again as MC will always be at the back of my mind but if we don't try we will never know...so heres to all ttc, may we all have happy healthy babies.
Sorry to who have suffered MC its a horrible thing to go through, but MN is a comfort, ive had loads of advice from this site much more helpful than health professionals!!!!

hi busymum, im in the exact same boat, i mc on the 13th may and i believe i ovulated 2 days after i stopped bleeding so without having time to think about whether it was the right thing to do to try again right away, we did it. im now expecting af any day now, tho heaven knows how long it might take but currently getting all the signs! i think the others are right that the drs tell u to wait for dating reasons but it does concern me some people are saying they mc right away also.

busymum05 · 10/06/2010 20:55

good luck magichen, i wish you all the best,

i just have one more question, im still bleeding 20 days on is this normal??

OP posts:
magichen · 10/06/2010 21:17

hmm, that is quite long, i bled for a week, then it went away and 4 days later i went to the dr, he told me it was normal to bleed for up to 2 weeks, dont think he got my point though. Anyway he gave me antibiotics to cover any infection i may get as i had a d&c. I would go to the dr if i was u..i dont think its normal to bleed that long. You could also maybe call your local Early Pregnancy Suite, they should be able to answer any questions.

magichen · 10/06/2010 21:17

p.s let me know how u get on..x

ameliajayne · 12/06/2010 11:47

hey all, posted on another thread a few days ago but popped on to see how long others waited before ttc again. i had my mc on Tues I think I would have been 5+5, still bleeding now it seems on and off sorry for TMI.

I went to my practice nurse on weds to tell them. she was nice but did not seem very confident in what she was saying iykwim, she kept asking if i was ok, so after about the third time i had said im fine i started to cry... she said bleeding should be over quickly. she said re ttc again as soon as you are ready no special reason why you should wait for first af but many people prefer to wait

I know its early days... I am still unsure about whether to ttc straight away. was anyone advised to wait until hpt tests neg before ttc?
thank you in advance for any posts xx

ljg72 · 12/06/2010 12:32

Hi Ameliajayne...sorry for your loss, I hope you are being looked after this weekend.
My mc was almost the same... (6 weeks)23 days ago.
I was advised as the loss was early and complete, as long as I got BFN, it should be ok to ttc...as long as I felt ok emotionally.
I bled for about a week, and then after a few days started ttc.
I hace calculated my cycle as Mc being day one...
Hope this is helpful to you, and wishing you the best of luck X

kitpuss · 13/06/2010 20:34

Hi Busymum, I conceived straight after a miscarriage. We had sex the day after I stopped bleeding from it, didn't use contraception - didn't really think I would be ovulating so soon, and that was it, up the duff!

All worked well for us, a beautiful son.

I too have heard that telling you to wait is more about the dating, but who knows what the real reason is!

ameliajayne · 16/06/2010 12:16

thanks guys
stopped bleeding day before yesterday (Mon) so altogether bled for 6 days.

sorry busymum05 for asking a q in your thread - hope you dont mind. i have heard that the reason people say to wait is for dating, but with the 12 wk dating scan being pretty much routine in most areas I think the advice is dependent on how you feel on a personal level.

btw wishing you a speedy bfp if you decide to ttc straight away or as soon as you are ready (and everyone else :-)

MummyAbroad · 08/07/2010 02:42

Hi busymum,

You said you wanted the good and the bad, so here is the downside...

I had a medically managed m/c and decided to wait for my first period before trying again. I thought I had got it, but it was very light and i kept bleeding and bleeding and bleeding, then it stopped. It took a long time and a lot of false starts before I found out that I have a very rare condition called a partial molar pregnancy. Its difficult to diagnose and if left untreated acts like a cancer with rapidly growing placental cells travelling to other organs of your body. In my case it travelled to the lungs before it was detected so now I have to have chemotherapy, and then wait a year before trying again.

Sorry to tell such a scary story, but my point is that if I had tried to get pregnant instead of waiting for my period I would have had another m/c and would have this thing invading all my organs before being discovered.

In my opinion this is good reason to wait for your period and or your blood HcG to return to normal.

I should point out that not everyone who is late with their period or bleeds for a long time has this condition. Just make sure you follow your doctors advice, they know your particular situation and what is best and safest for you.

best of luck
xxx

Hi there sorry to hear of everyone's MCs.
I had a complete MC and fell on a week after bleeding stopped (don't know how as we were using condoms! But very very happy I did). I was sent for a scan a week after a feint BFP as I didn't know if it was a new pregnancy or if I was previously carrying twins. It was a new pregnancy and I found out I was 5+6 weeks with twins. Unfortunately I lost one baby (if it wasn't for the early scan I'd never have known). In very early pregnancy they can date a pregnancy to the day but later scans only show to the week. I went on to have a beautiful DS who's now 20 months old (today).
On the other hand since TTC DC2 I've had 4 more MCs which I'm finding very hard. I'm currently on CD38 of UCL28 with a BFN! I have all pregnancy symptoms so unsure if I'm looking too hard for signs that aren't really there or if, like with DS, I'm going to be a late tester.
Whatever you decide to do needs to be right for you and your DP/H. The main thing I would say is that you need to be emotionally ready (just as important as being physically ready).
Good luck to all TTC especially those TTC after MCs x

mathanxiety · 08/07/2010 06:27

I had a mc at 13 weeks (this was a good few years ago) with no complications, and got pg again probably as soon as bleeding stopped. The one thing I worried about was that I might have been a bit anaemic or folic acid-deprived after the 13 weeks of the earlier pregnancy plus the bleeding associated with the mc. I realised I was pg when I started having morning sickness at about 5 weeks.
