MCs and hair dye anxiety

Hey. I have had 3 mcs and am obviously hyper sensitive about anything that may cause another. Ive been told that home hair dye is not good to use during pregnancy, but I wondered about a semi permanent dye? Any advice?
If its all a no-no then of course I will be happy to look like an old lady while a future baby grows happily inside, but wondered if anyone has a clearer idea of whats ok?

Hi Faith - I think semi-permanent is safe to use, at least that is what I've read. Just don't use anything with ammonia and you'll be fine! And if you're really worried, just don't dye your hair for now, or maybe just highlight it.

The NHS advice is that hair dye is fine (see here), but I would say that if you are going to worry about it then it is not worth doing!

Thanks both, especially for the link. I feel much reassured, and when I fall pregnant again its one thing less to worry about!

personally i suspect (instinctively) that any risk would be incredibly marginal. 60pc of women in this country dye their hair, and most of them probably use home dyes. i really hope there's no need to add going grey to the already long list of miseries associated with trying to get pregnant and stay pregnant!

I can't understand how something applied to your scalp (and then rinsed off) would affect your baby. I had highlights done in my first trimester (before I had even read that it was a bad idea) and my 20 month old DS is now bouncing around the living room! Though, as MrsHappy says, if it's likely to make you worry, then it's probably better for your peace of mind to leave well alone.
